I'm an intermediate, just getting back into sewing, and I was looking for a good machine to help me grow my skills -- without being overwhelming. I did a lot of research and settled on this one. Maybe others would have been just as good, but I love my new Janome. Easy and quiet, clear instructions, simple to thread, enough different stitches for me, including a buttonhole. I love the needle threader, and I love that I can set the maximum speed, which is great when I am trying something new. No complaints so far, just fun!
UPDATE: I have had this machine for over a year now and I still love it. I have used it on layers of heavy canvas & blackout lining as well as the flimsiest voile, and it worked equally well. It's done everything I needed it to do, and I'm looking forward to lots more new projects as well.
