Horizontal and Vertical ModesProjecting three luminous perpendicular 360-degree lines either together or independently, Bosch’s GLL3-80 three-plane leveling and alignment line laser has a top turret that projects on the horizontal and two side turrets that project two planes on the vertical at 90 degrees to each. This provides wall and partition layouts without the necessity of moving parts or any rotation. The laser line is constant and compact. There is also a pulse laser receive mode (for use with the optional LR2 laser receiver, which is not included) that can be used at up to 265 feet in all bright light. The smart pendulum leveling system handily self-levels and indicates out-of-level condition, which helps keep jobs on track. The secure transport lock also protects the pendulum when the unit is switched off.
Sturdy and User FriendlyBosch’s GLL3-80 three-plane leveling and alignment line laser is IP54 rated, which means that it’s protected against dust and water, providing a longer product life. It has a co-molded rubber housing that’s easy to hold on to and a freestanding base, which has magnets on the base to attach it to a metal track and both 1/4-20 and 5/8-11 tripod mounting. The keypad has a focus on readability, and has a pulse mode indicator, manual mode indicator, plane selection button (four possible plane selections), and a low battery indicator that blinks and provides a five-second acoustic warning signal. The GLL3-80 includes the WM1 positioning device that has a micro-fine height adjustment and laser detector with a bracket.

I sell and install A/V equipment for a living. Some might argue I'm a little OCD when it comes to being a perfectionist...

I have a Stanley that projects only in two planes, and definitely NOT in a 360 degree pattern. I needed/wanted something better, brighter, and I was not disappointed. While a dark room is beneficial, the laser pattern can easily be seen in most situations in which you are forced to deal with daylight. I'm sure you COULD don red glasses, but I'm not sure I would have to. Or want to. I've used it to lay out a grid for a ceiling storage solution in my garage in the daytime just fine. At night, I had to block it... it was casting a nice red line down the street.

Ease of use? If you can push a button, you can figure it out.

It self levels, and beeps extremely loudly every time it isn't. Tempted to tape over the speaker on the side to quiet it down.

Is the 360 laser on 3 planes significantly more beneficial than two? Absolutely. It simplifies the process of ensuring EVERYTHING is plumb/square/etc. I've been scouring the free world for a relatively affordable solution, and finally Bosch has exceeded my expectations.
