This is a well designed piece of furniture for the price.
Pros:
- Feels pretty solid once constructed. Although most of the panels are particle-board, the legs are solid wood and the top panel is reinforced. In addition to the 4 legs on the corners, there are two additional supports near the center of the unit. This definitely makes for more confidence when placing a 90 lb object on top.
- The exposed surfaces look great. The constructed unit is attractive.
- Shelves can be configured to hold two rows of standard DVD cases.
- Assembly is time consuming (3.5 hours), but not difficult. The unit can be assembled by one person, with the exception of the doors, for which another pair of hands to hold each one in place is helpful.
Cons:
- The shelves are backed by a removable board with openings to run wires through. This is fine if you never plan to remove it, but it is held on by cheap-feeling Velcro tape. The adhesive on the tape is actually weaker than the Velcro, and I had to take great care to not ruin it during installation. Don't plan on removing this panel once it's in place.
